Harrisburg Protection From Abuse Lawyers

Carlisle PFA and Restraining Order Attorneys

Going through divorce or another family law dispute is especially difficult for individuals who fear for their safety or are accused of domestic violence. Many victims of abuse are afraid to report abuse and ask for a restraining order. At the same time, some individuals will fabricate stories of abuse to gain an edge in family court. Whatever difficulties you face, it is important to have an attorney with many years of family law experience on your side.

With offices in Harrisburg, Newport, and Carlisle, the protection from abuse attorneys at Scaringi & Scaringi, P.C. have more than 80 years of combined experience practicing divorce and family law in central Pennsylvania. We are compassionate and approachable lawyers who are dedicated to acting quickly on each client's behalf, especially in situations involving abuse or alleged abuse.

The time to act is now. Please contact our law firm for a free consultation.

Like a restraining order, a protection from abuse (PFA) order prohibits contact between an alleged abuser and the victim, along with any children involved. In some divorce situations, this means the defendant must leave the family home. It usually takes about 10 days for a hearing to take place after someone petitions for a PFA. If immediate help is necessary, the court will issue a temporary order or emergency protection from abuse (EPFA) order between the time the petition was filed and the hearing. A final protection from abuse order can last up to three years.

Two of our family law attorneys are also former prosecutors and current criminal defense lawyers. This experience is particularly beneficial in cases involving domestic violence, where knowledge of both areas of law is essential.

Orders for Protection and How They Affect Children

Where children are involved, PFAs are even more important. If you are a victim of domestic assault or other abuse, PFAs can protect your vulnerable children. If you are accused of domestic violence, PFAs can make it impossible for you to visit your children and impact the court's child custody decisions. They may also involve child protective services in your case. Our legal team can help ensure that the best interests of your children and your parental rights are protected.
